This
web site contains my work of the Jewish year 5768 (2007-8) on Torah and
Haftarah readings in English-language chantable versions, including recordings
of the Torah readings I have done in that year, in both Hebrew and in English,
and in two or three different trope systems.
It
also contains my work as of July 15, 2007 on English-language versions of
HolyDay readings with tropes matching the Hebrew. Also from that time are my
recordings (.mp3 files) of the complete book of lamentations in my English
version, as well as a Lamentation on the Holocaust that I have adapted to be
sung to the Lamentation tropes. This
piece is quite powerful even when read straight. My version sung to the Eicha
tropes is even more so. It seems to be achieving an important tikkun on my own
soul.
The
voice recordings are available in two formats:
Each
of the five chapters of Eichah can be played straight through by clicking on
the corresponding .mp3 file.
I
have also created a .pdf file with my English Eichah + tropes, containing
embedded sound files, one for each verse.
Just click on a boxed pasuk-number to play the corresponding reading.
For
the Holocaust lamentation, you can play it straight through, or you can open
the .pdf file (containing the text + trope symbols for the melodies I use in
the chanting) and click on any boxed paragraph to hear the chant for that
paragraph.
I
have also included a scan of the pages from the book THE UNCONQUERABLE SPIRIT containing
the holocaust lamentation in Hebrew and in English, with photographs. These
pages are extremely evocative, and should be looked at while listening to the
lament. (The version with sound has
boxed paragraphs which you can click to hear the chant of that paragraph.)
I
also created an English version of all the High Holyday Torah readings. On this
web site is my latest version of
the English-with-tropes for the Rosh HaShanah Torah readings, together with
sound files for each pasuk both in English
and in Hebrew. Just click on a boxed "E" or a boxed "H" to
hear the corresponding chant.
You
will notice that the .pdf's containing embedded sound files are huge. It may
take time for them to open.
